About

I worked in industrial Research and Development for nearly 40 years. I was a research scientist in fiberglass insulation, orthopedic implants, and pharmaceuticals. Although I have applied a number of different techniques to materials testing, my specialty is microscopy. In particular, I have applied polarized light microscopy, thermal microscopy, microspectroscopy (IR and Raman), scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry to problems in the above-mentioned fields. My training is in physical chemistry with an emphasis on materials science.

I retired from full-time work in April 2016. I founded a consulting business specializing in microscopy training and in solid-state analysis. I published a textbook in Pharmaceutical Microscopy with Springer in 2011.
